about

We began our weekly Moving Picture Shows on the Westbrookjazz.co.uk website in April 2020. Each week on a Friday morning we added a film from the Kate and Mike Westbrook film archive. Late last year, Kate began illustrating some of their music with sets of paintings with Toad's Washerwoman being the first. The School of Jolly Dogs is the third in this series of films with more to come. The song itself is a music hall one written by Harry Copeland and performed in 1865 at Wilton's Music Hall in London. Mike and Kate have brought it up to date with this marvellous version, arranged by Mike and sung by Kate. It was recorded in 1989 by Jon Hiseman and hasn't seen the light of day until now.
